A drive in the Minamiboso area where you can fully enjoy the nature of the sea and mountains at the same time is perfect for a short weekend outing. We will introduce recommended weekend drive courses that are easily accessible from the city center and can be enjoyed on a day trip.
We recommend leaving early in the morning. Passing through the Aqua Line, we entered the Tateyama Expressway and first took a short break at ``Roadside Station Furari Tomiyama’’. This place has an abundance of fresh local vegetables and seafood, and it’s standard to enjoy the famous fishball soup or homemade side dishes instead of breakfast.
Once you’ve had your fill, head to the Boso Flower Line, which runs along the Minamiboso coastline. This road is an exhilarating driving route where rape blossoms and marigolds bloom in abundance every season, and you can enjoy the sea breeze. On the way, let’s stop by Nojimazaki Lighthouse. This chalk lighthouse is located at the southernmost tip of the Boso Peninsula and offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean.
For lunch, enjoy fresh seafood around the fishing ports of Tateyama and Chikura. The seafood bowl made with local fish caught that day and the Boso specialty fried horse mackerel are exquisite. Eating a meal while looking out at the ocean will make your drive even more exciting.
In the afternoon, why not go a little inland and visit Oyama Senmaida? It is known as the closest rice terrace to Tokyo, and the beautiful landscape of rice fields stretching along the slope is a true example of the original Japanese landscape. Especially at dusk, when the rice fields are illuminated by the setting sun and shine golden yellow, it is breathtakingly beautiful.
On the way back, use the Futtsu-Tateyama Road for a smooth journey home. Enjoy a wonderful weekend of refreshing time on this route packed with the charms of Minamiboso, including the sea, flowers, gourmet food, and spectacular views.
